Communicating with your Toddler may seem impossible.  Maybe it isn’t.

Long winded speeches to your toddler as to why you shouldn’t do something is not going to get through, nor does sudden, unexplained physical reprimands.  If you are happy one minute and spanking them the next, they will never be able to make the connection as to why they are getting spanked.

According to Harvey Karp, MD author of  The Happiest Toddler on the Block: How to Eliminate Tantrums and Raise a Patient, Respectful, and Cooperative One- to Four-Year-Old: Revised Edition
says to think of your toddler as a little cave person.  It helps to think of their ways of communication as pre-verbal behavior of cave people.  When they were upset they would scratch, throw, and hit to communicate.

Translate your developed understanding into their “cave-speak.”

  1. Use phrases not sentences.  The phrase should be 1 – 3 words long.
  2. Repeat that phrase 5 – 10 times.
  3. Mirror them just a little – 1/3 of their behavior – to communicate your upset in tone and action.  Then they can see you are upset and understand it better.

Always consider homeopathy to be a valuable ally in hard to manage children.  Homeopathy can calm down even the most irascible toddler.
